Everyone’s favorite kick-off to summer, Little Rock’s Memorial Day weekend party, Riverfest, has some special treats in store for dogs and their people.
Ruff on the River, a dog parade and costume contest held on Sunday, May 26th, will benefit All About Labs, Canine Companions for Independence, Little Rock Animal Shelter and Out of the Woods Animal Rescue of Arkansas. The registration “pawty” (I see what they did there!) starts at 9:00 a.m. at the corner of 2nd St. and River Market Ave.; the parade starts at 10:30.
Immediately following the parade, those of you with dogs of the short-legged variety are invited to enter your pup in the Weenie Dog Derby race!
We’ll update when we have additional registration info.
Another really cool event, the Super Retriever Series (SRS) Super Dock Championship, will also be held again this year at Riverfest. The dog equivalent of track and field, the SRS hosts the best jumpers in the world, and they’ll be competing for the title of SRS Crown Champion!
The Ducks Unlimited Super Fly and Duck Unlimited Super V competitions are fun to watch as dogs test their skills on the dock. Super Fly is the distance or long jump into a pool and Super V (Vertical) is the high jump competition also into a pool. The event will be held in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Family Zone at Heifer Village.
